The Stix Magazine - music street press of Penrtih, Blue Mountains, Lithgow, Bathurst and Orange and west of Sydney It is no wonder that Blue Mountains based Mozaika have won awards for their originality. This two track demo is a good example of the interesting work that Me-Lee and Mare are wowing audiences with. Mozaika mix orchestral arrangements and electronic music to come up with a beautifully layered, moody and mostly dark sound-scape. But while layered and complex, at times it is also effectively sparse, which really helps build the mood. The pair use their classically trained talents to create music that is intelligent and interesting. Their use of strings and piano is really effective, and these sounds dominate throughout. Many times the use of these instruments has been abused by pop music, but not here. Here it is all done with impeccable taste. Add to this an excellent quality recording for an independent release and you have an extremely listenable demo. Mozaika's influences are quoted as being the likes of Bjork, Portishead and Massive Attack, and while all of these influences can be heard in their music, there is a distinct originality that makes them like no-one else but themselves. This is apparent to me mainly because I like all of their influences but have never really been a big lover of this style of music. I have a Portishead album but listen to it very rarely. I often find it too dark, and me, I am more of a rock girl. But I find Mozaika's take on the fusion of electronic and classical music both dark and moody, but also uplifting, and this I like. It is hard to write a well rounded review with only two songs to go by, so come on Mozaika, how about an EP or a whole album for people to dig their teeth into? -Robyn Jarman- The Stix Magazine March 2007 www.myspace.com/stixmag www.CDBaby.com - user review The mind takes wing as it slides into moZaiKa's slip stream. Captured by an electro current that impels us to respond, we find ourselves trying to anticipate the journey but are foiled by a voice & words that reveal another, unexpected path. Resonating with the mercurial beat, we ponder the elusive, enigmatic lyrics til a vapour trail left by a violin steals our thoughts & begs for further interpretation. Mesmerizing moZiaKa, it is too easy to dive into your slip stream again : a great sound. Others say : Who's that? www.cdbaby.com/mozaika |
